A lesson learned. $30 for 2* in this zone yielded a counteroffer of $8 more. Ignored, waited 24 hours. Tried up to $35 for 3* and 2.5* in this zone, plus Bay zone. Rejected. Started over with just Tillmans Corner at $35, accepted here.

Unfortunately, this particular hotel has a AAA rate of $37.80 this day, so it would have been cheaper to book direct. Also has some really bad reviews. I guess I'll survive for one night.

Requested three star hotel. It was nice enough, just not really what I would consider 3 stars. Hotel staff was helpful and friendly.

Tried for a 4*, then 3.5 at $55 and $60, using the free rebid of Mobile West each time. Dropped to 3*; I'd bid $45 last week and received a Priceline counter offer to up bid by $13 and declined. This time I opened the 3* bid at $50 and got it immediately. Advance purchase rate on the site is $68, so not a huge savings, but we'll take it. Used the A-B link at the top of this page. Thanks BFT!

A Couple of New Birmingham Hotels

I just wanted to let the Bidding For Travel users know that a couple of new hotels (new construction) recently have opened in downtown Birmingham: Hyatt Place and Residence Inn. Don't know if they will participate in Priceline or Hotwire, but I thought you might like to know they are here!

Placed bid through Amazing Bargains for $46 for 3* in Montgomery for 9/19. Got Embassy Suites and was thrilled. Stayed at several including this one and it's probably my favorite chain. Called hotel to confirm for late arrival, staff seemed unsure why we would call.

Got to hotel about 1 am, guy at desk asked how many adults and I said 2, gave me 2 coupons for breakfast, I mentioned my son was along too, he said I'd have to pay $11 for him but couldn't run charge...

Initial bid was $60 for 3* hotel in central Mobile. Rejected. Was offered a rebid for same criteria for $77, but I declined that. I added the Mobile West zone and upped the bid to $65. Accepted!

Reading the previous post about this hotel really helped out. Hyatt Place is a VERY nice hotel, so I was surprised to get it at such a low price on a holiday weekend.

Made first bid of $40 for 3* in Birmingham - Inverness area for travel today - ACCEPTED at Hyatt Place Inverness. WOO HOO! guess I bid too much on my first bid!
Stayed there last visit and we love this hotel.
I'm getting to love this bidding for travel stuff. Never would have thought I would be saying that I paid 40 bucks for a 3* and I might have paid "too much". SWEET!

Kinda late posting this, but I guess better late than never ...............
On the day of travel, Bid $48 on 3* in Hoover - rejected. Added Inverness and upped bid to $52 - ACCEPTED for dates 7/21-7/24 WOO HOO!
1st time playing the "bidding for travel", and what a thrill! Beautiful hotel and wonderful staff.
And to think I was about to book on-line at a 2* for around 90 bucks...

Tuscaloosa Ramada

We bid $58 for August 7th, the night before summer graduation. We were assigned the Ramada and the room we got was a complete dive. I was told that Priceline had requested a handicap room and it was one double bed, all very shabby. I would give the room a 1 star. I did not see any other rooms so I don't know how it compared. I think the clerk would have moved us if he had another room. It was very shabby, reeked of cigarette smoke (no smoking room). We were very frustrated but Priceline...

I initially bid $45 for 3* in Birmingham only. Rejected.
I added the Oxmoor/Homewood and increased the bid to $46. Accepted

Somehow I missed the "$40 travel insurance" and had that tacked on to my 8-day stay, ugh. At least work is paying and I saved them a bunch of $$ already.
