4* MTW Hilton New York $120 1/15-1/19

This was my first time bidding for a room.
I wanted to stay in Times Square, but this is what I got.
1st bid; 4* TS $110
2nd; 4* TS+MTW $115
3rd; 4* TS+MTW+Brooklyn $120
With tax & fees its about $146 a night. Some say this is not exactly a 4* hotel but, it seems like a good deal anyway.
They say its non-refundable or non-changable, but what if the room does not meet my expectations?

I have not bid on Priceline yet, but am planning to bid for a hotel in NYC for a trip this spring. I would like to stay in a 4* or 3.5* in MTE or CPS, and I see that Priceline does not list UES, Chelsea, and Long Island City as having any 3.5* or 4* properties available for bid. My question: is it safe to assume that a 3.5* or 4* property won't become available when I am bidding? Has anyone ever gotten a bid accepted in a "free bidding zone" where presumably that wasn't...

Hurrah! On Amazing Bargains -- I first bid $99 for a 4* hotel in Times Square -- it told me if I paid $22 more, I would get it. Instead, I added Midtown West and was Rejected. I then lowered the start to 3 1/2* and was accepted!!

Bid $119 with adding midtown east, no
Bid $125 with adding midtown, west and got the Hilton

It was not one of the hotels listed at all on Priceline. The best I found on Hotwire in the area was $159. Bid thru this site. So I am happy with Hilton.

Is an additional "occupancy tax" legit?

I've been browsing the successful bids here, and several times mention has been made about having to pay an "Occupancy Tax" upon checking in or checking out of a hotel obtained through Priceline. I haven't taken notes, but I think it was a 2* hotel charging $4 on checkout and a 3* hotel charging $2 on checkin. That doesn't make sense. A "tax" is either a flat fee or something that is a percentage of a rate, so a 3* hotel should have a higher such tax than a 2*...

I just bid $125.00 for a four-star hotel in Central Park South and got Le Parker Meridien on the first try! I was prepared to use four free re-bids to increase my bid incrementally until I got something, but it wasn't necessary. I've stayed here once before, and it's a beautiful property with stunning views of Central Park. It's got a great restaurant downstairs for breakfast - just don't accept the fresh-squeezed orange juice. It's $7 per glass!!

Tried for Central Park South at $130 for Jan 1-3rd. Got rejected. Meant to add Midtown East, but clicked Midtown West for $120. Got accepted. Called and wrote Priceline emails. They won't refund so I can rebid for correct neighborhood. Thought I would make the best of it, but am finding bad reviews on small room, etc. Sent emails begging for reconsideration so I could rebid correct neighborhood but they "empathize" but can't do anything.
