I visit this excellent board everyday, use it for every Orlando trip we go on. This is the first time I have posted review because I usually agree with most of what I have read after visiting the hotel and I feel it's probably better to just refrain from adding overkill. But I do want to say I have found the reviews to be an excellent tool for me before I visit the hotel to make me aware of what to expect. With that being said I felt compelled to post my review of the Ramada Plaza Gateway in Kissimmee.
We added an additional day to our vacation and since I needed a hotel for only one night I bid on the 2.5* figuring I'd likely get the Courtyard as most other 2.5* bids have. Unfortunately this was not the case.
First off the absolute best thing I could say about this hotel was I only stayed there one night!!! This hotel DOES NOT belong in the priceline 2.5* category and is in no way comparable with the Renaissance or either of the Courtyard's in the 2.5* category.
The hotel is separated into two sections. A tower and a "motel" like layout. Upon check-in I asked the concierge for a room in the tower and I was RUDELY refused because I was a "priceline" customer. None of the 4* or 3* hotels has EVER pointed out a priceline reservation to me. I found that to be totally inappropriate. She then informed me I could be "upgraded" to the tower for an additional $15.00 per night. What? Believe me this hotel is not the Waldorf Astoria to begin with!!! I asked her if the rooms were any different than the ground level rooms and she replied, "no". So what was the point of the $15.00 increase??? So, since it was only one evening, we settled for the ground level "motel style" room.
The room itself was small and very cramped. There was a table and two "squeaky" double beds. The t.v. was 13" and there was a small mini fridge below that would hold about two gallons of milk and nothing else. The bathroom was VERY small with only a shower and it did not appear to be clean at all :-( The shampoo and soap were "Ramada" brand as well.
The grounds were VERY unkept. Paper wrappers scatter in most area's. The pool was small and very cold. The lobby was basic and we did not check out the restaurant. The "motel" section was two levels and there were "over full" garbage cans at several of the stairwell area's. This likely would have attributed to the wind blown papers everywhere, but you think they would have maintenance staff on hand to tend to it.
I don't want to appear spoiled by the 4* hotels I have stayed at through priceline, but I feel they STRONGLY need to reconsider the rating on this one. This is not about a 4* level, but instead that this hotel just can not be compared to the Renaissance or either of the Courtyard's which I have also stayed at and are the remaining hotels in the 2.5* category for WDW area.
*Note: Sheryl is there a place I can write to priceline about the rating of this hotel. If so I can promise you I will pass my comments along to the appropriate division. Thank you in advance for assistance.
