Posts: 170388 Jan 10 12 9:24 PM GEAUX SAINTS GEAUX Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Tags : None Yesterday, I checked the rate for a 5* in Hotwire's Dallas Downtown/Uptown - Market Center South zone for 2/10-2/12. The rate was $250/night. I just checked again and it says $242/night and one room left at that rate. Yesterday, it didn't say the number of rooms left. So if there is really only one room left a month in advance, why would the rate decrease? I've questioned the practice of the numbers of rooms left with all travel providers for years now. This is not just a Hotwire issue but to me, this is a glaringly obvious example of a mistruth. Please place all of your Priceline bids through our Priceline link. Posts: 10301 Jan 10 12 10:36 PM Moderator Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Sheryl, isn't it possible that the supplier saw they weren't selling many rooms at $250, and decided to make one room available at $242, one at $245, one at $247 and the remaining ninty at $250? That way the implied-shortage can create an aura of panic in potential buyers, and still not put their entire inventory at a lower rate? Kind of the way the airlines and Megabus stagger pricing, so that as the carrier fills up, the price increases. Not really mistruth, and since the supplier sets the prices, not something that Hotwire can control. Other than remove the option of telling how many rooms are available at a given price. Hotwire probably just doesn't want the consumer to THINK about what they're doing, and rather wants them to buy impulsively. I'm not saying it's a good thing. While I realize setting rates is outside the power of the agency, they should still be held accountable for the rates they advertise similar to how the U.S. Dept of Transportation holds the airlines and the travel agencies who sell the airline tickets accountable for the rates they advertise.
