Our $55 bid got us this charming boutique hotel with a huge room overlooking the Alamo. Understated elegance describes the lobby and guest rooms with muted color and low lighting. The staff excelled in courtesy and efficiency though I would like to have heard more on the history of the exquisite building. The in room coffee was Starbucks and the amenities, Aveda. The only minor problems: The TV control wouldn't work from the bed-too far away. Hot water took a long time to come-again, too far away. The AC seemed to have a mind of its own. In the free magazine, FIESTA, you'll find a coupon for their restaurant, ORO, for a "buy one, get one free" meal. This is not to be missed for something special. Also, nearby is the German deli, Schilo's, where for around $5 you get a breakfast to last till dinner. Don't miss the biscuits! Other hotel details can be found at their website.

We have just returned and have nothing but good things to stay about the Emily Morgan. We arrived on Thursday evening to a king size "Heavenly Bed"- The most comfortable bed we've ever slept in. Our room was gorgeous-very contemporary. We had a love seat and a sofa chair along with a built in desk. The spacious bathroom also had a relaxing Jacuzzi tub. The only complaint was that the TV could not be watched in bed and their only parking option was valet for $16.00 per day. On Friday we were approached by a hotel manager who explained that someone had requested to rent out the entire floor we were staying on so they upgraded us to a suite! We had the best views in the hotel. The room had an entire living area, two TVs, and huge Jacuzzi tub, it was absolutely sinful. We even had views from the tub and toilet! I loved the Emily Morgan and hope we get to stay there again.

It's a beautiful neo-gothic 1920's highrise. We had a room with 2 double beds & jacuzzi tub. Upscale, modern, minimalist decor. House-keeping a little slow in replenshing supplies. We ran out of conditioner and coffee. Definitely a 4*.

Offer price: $70 Rooms: 1 Nights: 3 Total: $210 Taxes/fees: $43.93 Total: $253.93 Parking was listed at $16/night for valet (only option), worked out to over $17/day after city taxes. On the second day of our stay, the valet pulled our car around, and then we noticed that it had a flat tire. I'm not sure how he could have not noticed. The place where they park the cars behind the hotel seemed a bit sketchy, so I haven't ruled out the possibility that the nail in the tire was from that lot. I think the building is actually older than 1920's, maybe even 1908 or something. It had its quirks. The hallways were very hot, and I had trouble keeping a good temperature in my room, despite the presence of the digital thermostat. I was initially afraid that I might be stuck with a single queen bed, since I was traveling with a friend from college. But the front desk gave us a room with no view but with two queen beds. I requested a Jacuzzi and a view, but was told it would be an additional $40 per night. No thanks. Another quirk this hotel had was that the bathroom had "frosted" glass doors to the bedroom. So if the lights were out in the bedroom, you could see quite a bit into the bathroom with its lights on. I checked out the pool, though did not swim. It was in a side of the building and rather small, though I'm used to big pools (from Florida). While waiting for service from my rental car company, I checked out the "library." It was very nice looking, dark wood shelves, some books (don't know what books they were). There was internet access provided in there, but only through Ethernet. (Bring your own laptop!) I don't think there was wireless though. As for location, it is literally right next to the Alamo. If you look at the map of the Alamo, this building sits in the Alamo's original boundaries. The location was great. The Riverwalk was maybe a block or so away. Overall, I was pleased with this hotel. The going rate on the hotel's site was about $120/night, so I saved about $44/night after the PL fee. I still thought that $70 ( tax fee parking = ~$100/nt) was pricey, but it was far better than staying at some of the 2* or 2.5's we saw that were not even close to the Riverwalk. By their appearance, some of the 4's directly on the Riverwalk seemed to be better places to stay (i.e. the newest Marriott, the Hyatt, the Wyndham). I thought it was a great time to visit San Antonio--not too hot during the day and still cool at night. It was a very romantic city. I told my friends that if I ever find a girl to marry, I'm taking her to the Riverwalk.

Posts: 46 Apr 22 04 7:02 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I am literally writing this review from my king size bed on the 11th floor overlooking the Alamo and all I can say is WOW! This without a doubt has turned out to be the best room I have ever been provided through a Priceline bid. One of the most important things in travel today is customer service and the Emily Morgan staff has been nothing but excellent. When I checked into the hotel at midnight the previous evening, the front desk person could not find my reservation. I had my confirmation from Priceline with confirmation number but no luck. After a few minutes of trying to find the original reservation, the attendant amazed me by what he did NOT DO. Instead of taking the usual "We are right and you are wrong" attitude, he apologized for the inconvenience and gave me an executive suite. Not bad at all! As for the room, it is wonderful. All of the previous listings do a fantastic job describing the amenities so I won't bore you with redundancies. I travel every week to many different cities across the country, and I without hesitation confirm this is one of the nicest hotels you can experience. I hope you too will have a chance to enjoy this property.

When she called in advance, she was told that only a single bed room was available since the hotel were quite busy; upon arrival they were given a room with two beds. They also got a free rollaway. They liked the beautiful lobby and thought the room was very attractive. They were also pleased with the in/out privileges of the valet parking.

Considering that the Alamo Bowl is today, I think we were extremely lucky to get a room at this hotel for the nights of 27 & 28 December. San Antonio was full of tourists and Iowa backers. The Emily Morgan is not a "old" hotel, but rather a hotel in a old historic building. The bulding was erected in the late 1920's and was San Antonio's first Medical Arts Building accomodating 100 doctors with office space for 400. The architecture is stunning and one usually does not see such beauty any more. It really is beautiful. You must see it up close to understand. Later in 1976 the building was converted into a modern office building. In 1984 it was again converted into a hotel, thus, the Emily Morgan Hotel was founded. There was no mention of Priceline at check-in other than "I see you have a pre-paid room, welcome to the Emily Morgan". I asked for and was given a lovely queen room on the 14th floor that was cozy, had all the expected incidentals (soap, towels, coffee, lotions, robes, etc.) This hotel is entirely non-smoking which is a definite plus! It was clean, the bed was very comfortable, the AC/Heating was a little cranky at first but engineering fixed it quickly. The bath was clean and functional with plenty of hot water. The hotel staff was very attentive to our needs and never hesitated to ask if all was correct, and could they do more to make our stay comfortable. We opted for valet parking so as to allow for in & out privileges when needed. ($19.47 a day) Valet was quick and convenient. The restaurant was moderately priced for a 4* hotel and we did enjoy the breakfast each morning. Breakfast for 2 with unlimited coffee was about $23 which included the tip. Great service and the food was hot and tasty. As previous posters have noted, the Alamo is directly across the street. The River Walk is minutes away with easy access. I could find nothing wrong the hotel, the staff, or its condition. Remember, this is an old building and there will be some minor comestic flaws. So What! I guess I am not as discriminating as others because I do not consider a dated rug or dent on a piece of furniture to be a detractor. My objective was to secure a 4* hotel room at a great price in the downtown area. I got it and we were happy. This is a well deserving 4* hotel! You will enjoy yourself. No mention of Priceline

Posts: 33 Mar 19 07 2:39 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The generally rosy earlier reviews need tempering somewhat. The reason is that some of the Emily Morgan rooms are quite small. Therefore, bidding 4* on PL in San Antonio can be risky. You may not get the Marriott or the Hyatt and you may not get one of the Emily Morgan's larger, nicer rooms (that are comparable to the Marriott or Hyatt).

Google 'express news' and then search Emily Morgan if you want to read the story.....my stay has been cancelled.

Primarily, the rooms are tired, not very clean and not well maintained - hotel is in need of refurbishment. When bidding, factor in $26/day for valet parking (only option at this hotel). Shop around for special rates (even if slightly higher) from other 4-star hotels before risking an Emily Morgan "win". Great location, right next to the Alamo, two blocks to Rivercenter mall, one block to the Riverwalk.

Posts: 13 Sep 25 09 3:14 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Seen a lot of negative reviews of this hotel lately. Thought I would dispell some of the inaccuracies. We had a delightful 3 night stay. Our room was very well maintained throughout the stay...very clean and well appointed. Is it the caliber of other 4 stars downtown? Nope...but can you get a room there for under $65 even on priceline? Nope. The parking is very expensive but not your only option. There are $12/day lots on the same block and streetside parking is free from 6 pm to 8 am. Just get up and put a few coins in the meter if you plan on using the car later in the day. The jacuzzi tub worked fine and the AC did as well. The room was quite large. My only complaint is that we got some misinformation from the staff downstairs and they didn't always seem to have answers to our questions and weren't too concerned about finding the answers. Bottom line is this is a perfect place if you can get it under $70 and have the parking figured out. The rooms are nice, the beds excellent, plenty of room...just ask for an room with an Alamo view. OK, the TV is old tube type but who is watching TV on a holiday or business trip anyway.
