Posts: 60 02/22/01 6:37 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Tags : None Stayed here 2/20/01 and it was a pleasant experience on a really cold night. The room was well appointed with the sink outside of the toilet/bath area. The restaurant/bar is open until 11:00 p.m. or so and was nice about popping my microwave popcorn. There is a large room with a heated pool and whirlpool and the room is centrally located. The area around the hotel had many ethnic restaurants within walking distance if it hadn't been so cold. The only negative was a huge crumb or small remnant of some previous guests' sandwich which was left in the corner behind the door. For $19/night I couldn't complain too much.

They are apparently renovating the rooms, and I stayed in both types of rooms. There is a nice pool and whirlpool and a small fitness center. The lobby is classy, but certainly not elegant. The room service was barely average, although they did a better breakfast than dinner. Both the old and the renvoated rooms were fine. Obviously the renovated room looked nicer, had a larger tv and a more comfortable chair. Both had very comfortable beds. The renovation did not disrupt either of my stays. Housekeeping was average at best, they would occassionally miss things, but it really didn't detract from the stay. I'll break the remarkable things out by what was good and what was bad. Good: --Full cable including HBO, this was very nice to have stations like Comedy Central and all the others you rarely get. There were approximately 60 channels. --Large vanity, separate from bathroom --Sunday brunch is excellent --Bed is amazingly comfortable --Very nice toiletries (better than Neutrogena) --Room was very comfortable overall --Room service breakfasts were very good --Business center has free computer with printer and internet access for use Bad: --The renovated rooms have energy saving shower heads. I have stayed in probably 300 hotels in my life, and most have had energy saving shower heads. But by far this was the worst shower head I've ever, ever encountered. It trickled out about 12 pin sized jets and it took me 2-3x as long to shower. I gave up on it and started taking baths to save time. So much for saving water though. --Room service did not always operate the hours listed in the book. They were closed one Sunday morning and would close earlier during the week. --The room service dinners left much to be desired (I tried 3 times and gave up) --Cheap clock radios only got 1 local station --Very small closet was loaded with oversize hangers, ironing board and luggage stand. It was very difficult to open the door.

Posts: 84 12/04/02 12:50 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Won this hotel for a one night stay at the end of a Thanksgiving visit to the midwest (12/1/02). I was pleased with the improvements the Radisson is making. We were in a remodeled room, and the furnishings were quite nice. Did not have the problem with the low flow showerhead that Montognese reported; ours had good pressure and water flow. The next steps in the rennovation are an elevator (currently being constructed) and new carpeting in the hallways. The elevator is a good addition, even though the hotel has only two floors. The hallway carpets needed to be replaced long ago - really worn and dirty, bunched up so badly in some places that it's a wonder no one tripped and fell. New hallway carpeting will be VERY welcome. Once all the improvements are complete, this will be quite an attractive property, especially if they keep their Priceline rate of $32 per night. Did not use restaurant or room service, so cannot comment on those.

Posts: 79 06/17/04 11:49 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	After a three night stay, I can report that the new carpet is in in the halls. This is a pleasant, clean hotel with friendly staff. They helped me out in route as I realized my companion for the stay would arrive before I would and my name was on the reservation. Although they have standard bell hop carts, there was no bell service. The toiletries are "made exclusively for Radisson" and look, feel and smell upscale. One day they ran out of conditioner and placed a bottle of Nuetrogena in it's place. You have to fill out a housekeeping menu each day (check which you want...clean towles, clean sheets, trash emptied, floors vaccumed) and place it on door before 8 a.m. In an odd twist, at check out they insisted that they owed me $.98 change. I laughed it off but the desk clerk suggested I might need it for tolls. Since I was headed to Illinois, land of Lincoln and insufferable tolls, I accepted the change. Did not eat in the restaurant but did enjoy a good meal at "Smokey Bones" near the mall on Gammon.

Posts: 13 08/09/04 6:37 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Stayed one night in July '04. Basically satisfactory visit. Nicely renovated. I do have a couple comments... Like post above, shower pressure was really bad. Laughably so. Also, we got two double beds. These were true doubles. Being used to a queen, these were really short and narrow. We asked for a queen or king but they couldn't (wouldn't?) move us. I realize, we got what priceline promises - a room for two. Still, be aware. I travel alot and I rarely find a double bed anymore.

Posts: 373 02/06/07 11:50 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I think it's time for another review of this hotel. At check-in Priceline was mentioned...But no big deal. I asked if it would be possible to upgrade to a room with a Sleep Number bed. The nice lady said that we had already been given a room with 2 Sleep Number beds. I then asked if we could have a K instead. She asked if I wanted it near the lobby, away from the lobby, 1st floor or 2nd floor!!!! I took near the lobby on the 2nd floor. (There is an elevator.) There was a sign on the desk mentioning a breakfast buffet included with some rates. (I noted the word 'some' and figured it couldn't include us Priceline folks!) Then she said, "There will be a breakfast buffet served in Basie's, the restaurant, until 9 AM for all of our guests." This was a perk I wasn't planning on, but was thrilled to discover! All in all--a super check-in experience!!! The room itself was rather small and crowded, with an armchair and ottoman, K (Sleep Number) bed, desk and chair, big cabinet w/ TV. The sink/counter w/ coffee maker (Starbucks coffee) and hair dryer, is in the room, outside the bathroom. Bathroom has tub/shower with the BEST water pressure I've ever seen! Totally unlike previous posters. They have ASiRA shampoo, conditioner and soaps. Nice stuff. They do get lots of channels on the TV. I did use the small fitness room, which has new machines, towels, water, and a TV. Pool and hot tub looked really nice. Business center was off the lobby and looked fine. I didn't need it as I had WIFI in the room--free. We did have some excitement though! At about 10:30 PM the fire alarms went off. I went down to check it out and found that it was not fire, but water. One of the sprinklers malfunctioned or broke. It may have had something to do with the bitterly cold weather we were having at the time. I watched as the main floor hallway flooded. The water crept into the lobby area and kept going. I saw the firemen come, staff scurry around trying to do something--anything, and finally went back to the room to try to shut out the loud sound. We talked to the hotel owner in the morning. He said he and his staff had worked until 3 AM cleaning up. There were blowers on the hall carpet trying to dry things out. He said he had been very pro-active about taking care of things like replacing the roof, and remodelling everything. But......now he's aware that he will have to deal with possible bacteria or mold if he doesn't fix it right. I hope he replaces that section of carpet. It was under inches of water! My husband and I discovered that the Sleep Number beds were quite comfortable. But we found that we didn't want to buy one. We had been curious about them for a long time. This stay was well worth the $47 that I bid. Everyone was very pleasant and friendly. The breakfast buffet was good--with hot food, real plates, silverware and napkins, Starbucks coffee and crispy bacon! What more could you ask???

Posts: 373 05/11/08 8:07 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	It has been over a year since the last update. We stayed here on a $45 bid on 5/10/08. Just a couple of months ago they stopped having the free hot breakfast. (Bummer) But you can still order one from room service or pay about $11 for their buffet. I chose to go somewhere else...My room was scrupulously clean, sleep number beds were comfortable, wifi was strong, fitness room was good, Starbucks coffee in the room was excellent, staff was friendly. I particularly like the rounded shower curtain! The large pool/hot tub area looked wonderful. However, this hotel is getting 'tired' looking. And there always seem to be many empty rooms. It's a wonderful deal for $45--even without the free breakfast buffet. I hope we'll be able to continue to get this hotel for a long time.

The second night (Friday) there were a lot more people in the hotel and I heard a couple kids running in the hall, so I was worried it would be noisy, but I had no problem sleeping. The Sleep Number bed was very comfortable. I never tried the breakfast. There's a Panera just down the street. Ditto on the pool - didn't think to bring a suit to WI in February! Dang. Anyway, I looked in on Friday and there was a guy with big moobs sitting in the hot tub. No thanks. There's a small excuse for a gym downstairs. At least it was something. Desk staff was friendly and competent. Housekeeping didn't come knocking on my door before I was ready to go. Thanks for that. I couldn't get the WiFi to work but just used the hardwire. No biggie. Overall I would stay there again and especially for $40 it was a great value.

Posts: 22 08/29/12 8:36 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Our stay at the Radisson Madison last weekend was not the best this time. The hotel is in the midst of a renovation/remodel. It seems to me they stopped all maintenance too soon prior to the remodel. The carpet in the hallways was stained and very loose. The room that we stayed in was not very nice. The carpet was very stained. The wallpaper was peeling off in the bathroom and elsewhere. The room smelled musty. I would not recommend this hotel until the remodel is complete.
