We were there from Friday to Monday and there seemed to be more staff than guests but considering their market it is understandable........... When we checked in, Priceline was not mentioned and we were pleased to see we had received the non-smoking room and King size bed we requested. Our room on the 11th floor had a great view of the Bay Bridge and the Embarcadero Center which is across the street. Room was very well laid out (for being on the corner) and the bathroom was very luxurious...... The Park Hyatt's complimentary car service was used a couple of times - normally the late-model Mercedes only goes short distances, but as they were slow when we were there they took my wife and I to Coit Tower and Haight-Ashbury on 2 separate days. This service made the stay extra special (as if the $57/night room rate wasn't special enough!!) Concierge staff and drivers were of the highest order and are a credit to the brand. This is most certainly a 4* hotel This was my first bid on Priceline. It will not be my last!

If hotels think that giving stellar service will make someone come back - If another special occasion brings me to San Francisco, I would consider skipping priceline and booking the Park Hyatt directly just to ensure I got this outstanding hotel.

Posts: 81 Mar 19 02 4:02 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	If you don't mind walking or cabbing a short distance, there's a good selection of Thai, Indonesian and other ethnic restaurants about 1/2 - 3/4 mile from the financial district on Post Street. There is also a slew of options in Chinatown. I was in the financial district last week on business and our clients suggested a nearby Chinese restaurant for lunch. I think it was called J&G Lounge (or something like that) and was within a block of the Bank of America building. It was up a flight of stairs and a pleasant surprise. Impeccably clean with a nice atmosphere and linen tablecloths. Food was outstanding and reasonably priced. We ordered liberally and lunch for a party of seven came to about $100 including tax and tip. Also keep in mind that public transportation in SF is good. For $1 each way you can take the number 15 bus from Third Street and it will go through North Beach which is chock full of restaurants, many of them moderately priced.

We had a room on 15th floor on the south side of the hotel. Priceline was never mentioned. I do not know if this was an upgrade or not but the room had 2 sliding glass doors for windows facing southeast with a view of the bay and Bay Bridge. From the rate card this was a standard size room. I noticed that the rooms on the north side of the hotel do not have the sliding glass doors. King size bed, couch, chair, desk, TV, mini bar (refrigerator type so you car store things) 2 robes, fax machine, hair dryer, free room safe, etc. Room is in a kind of Japanese style with sliding door for the bathroom. Hotel offers transportation service around the downtown area. Call the desk to arrange for the car. We used this to go to dinner 2 nights. They will also come to pick you up afterwards. It was a Mercedes but is now a Lincoln Town Car. Driver said the Mercedes was in the shop too often and they will be getting a Cadillac soon. This hotel is in the downtown zone. It is NOT near Union Square (about 10 blocks away). It is in the Financial District, which is dead on weekends. Across the street is Embarcadero Center with various shops (Williams-Sonoma, Victorias Secret, Liz Claiborne, etc.) 3 blocks to Bart and California Street Cable Car line and trolleys. According to our driver the hotel is averaging 90% plus occupancy on weekdays but only 40% on weekends. Hotel is 4 blocks from the Hyatt Regency (Priceline rating 3*) at the other end of the Embarcadero Center. We had a great weekend and loved the hotel.

There are some parking garages within a few blocks of the hotel that charge less per day, but if you're going to be parking and re-parking a few times each day, the lower price suddenly becomes higher. As others have said, if you're staying there just on a weekend, street parking around the Financial District is pretty easy. And again, even adding $36 to a low-ish bid for this hotel is a bargain. If you end up with it.

We were given a 9th floor room that was facing building construction. I am a very light sleeper, so we asked if there was another room available and were promptly moved to the other side of the hotel on the 22nd floor, much better. The concierge staff is wonderful. They made a helicopter tour reservation for us on our last day and the helicopter company cancelled 1/2 hour after the scheduled pickup time. They gave us 2 drinks each, breakfast in the morning, and scheduled a trip to Coit Tower in the hotel car. The entire staff was wonderful.

We were given a corner room on the 6th floor with 2 sliding glass doors with limited views of the bay bridge. The room decor was very nice, modern style. TV was a little small. The downtown area is rather dead on the weekends, alot of the local restaurants are closed. However, it was only a short pleasant walk to Chinatown and North Beach. Lobby area is small, but nicely decorated and was not very crowded, a nice change from the mega-hotels, like the st-francis where you have to wait in line for everything. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

The most important thing is not to get a room on the side where construction is taking place. We were on the 10th floor and they are currently on the ninth floor across the street with workers starting between 6:30 and 7 am!!! That includes Saturdays! After the first night we were moved to the 15th floor on the other side and it was much better! The hotel has self parking across the street at the Embarcadero Center--$27.50 per day!!

Service was over the top- I walked out of my room with an ice bucket and a room service man noticed it, took it from me and filled it up for me... lots of stuff like this happened for my one night. I requested a smoking room and told the front desk dude that I was more interested in having the highest view than in a certain bed config- he said they only have one smoking floor- the 18th. The point is, if you want a room at that story (I think there are only 24 floors), ask for a smoking room- if you are smoker or not. I couldn't tell anyone had ever sparked up in there and I doubt my anti smoke mother could have. Loved the cd stereo and sliding doors...

Thus, this will be a short review of my first impression. SF and all it's one way streets. I forget the exact directions (like go up California and turn on Clay) but the staff on the other end was helpful and patient. You knew it was a 4* from the outside, the valets busy. The hotel lobby was luxurious and check-in was smooth, the staff was highly professional and efficient. He confirmed that I wanted a non-smoking room and asked if I needed luggage assistance. They gave me a room on the 12th floor, it was big it was beautiful. The 'famous' cordless phone sat on one desk along with a fax machine, the view was spectacular. Bathoom huge and luxurious. My brother is a complainer but not a peep from him about this place which is a good sign. Only issue I'd have might be the loaction away from the hub bub of Union Square, but I did not use the car service.

We arrive after 6 p.m. on Thrus night and park in the financial district (around the hotel). It is easy to find. Just be careful not to park in an area that street sweeps early Fri morning. At about 6 a.m. in the morning, I move the car to Fisherman's Warf onto Bay St. They street sweep Bay Street from 2-6 a.m. and there is plenty of parking afterward (no permit required). You will not have to move your car all weekend. This works pretty good if you are not worried about moving your car the entire weekend.

When I was cheking in, I asked if I can possibly have a room with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge and the bay, I was informed that the rooms with a view are additional $50. Having paid $46 for the night, I declined. I tried using the complementry car service but requesting it an hour before was obviously too late. The valet parking was worth $36 bucks. They did not mind parking my dust covered Jeep Wrangler with the top down. Although I did get a couple of stares from other guests arriving in BMWs and Caddies. Must be the New Jersey plates. When I called down to ask if I can go down to the garage to get something from my car they insisted that they will get it for me. Same thing happend when I came down to the valet booth. They are just too nice, I love it. The $21 "American Breakfest" was very yummy. I especially enjoyed the three kinds of jams in little baby jars. I also recommend the San Francisco clam chowder but the $16 pizza was too small. Also there is free fruit in the nicely equipped fitness room.

We frequently go to "The City" for shopping, dining & entertainment, but always come home at night since we live so close. We have always talked about spending the night, but the cost of hotel rooms made it somewhat impractical. Enter biddingfortravel.com! After all the posts of successfull $55 bids we just had to have our turn. I bid in mid-May for two nights (June 20 & 21) but was rejected. Finally I just tried June 21 and was accepted. Later I tried to add Saturday night June 22, but it was rejected at $55. Since the Hilton was going for around $60 I didn't want to go any higher than $55 since I didn't want to spend two nights in two different hotels. So we "made do" with just the one night. Because we knew the parking charge was $36 a day, we took BART to SF as we often do. We checked in around 2:00pm. We were greeted by a very professional, well-dressed front desk staff. Suits and ties for the gentlemen. The employee asked if we wanted two queens or a king. I always appreciate that question when on a Priceline reservation! She was training a new employee and kept referring to our reservation as an "Internet" purchase as she guided her through the check in process. She never once uttered the "P" word, instead referencing "Internet". Since the rooms have been described in good detail in previous reviews, I won't go to great lenghts to describe. We were assigned a non-smoking room on the 7th floor facing North. Although we could see the Bay off to the right, the main view out the window was of an across-the-street building under construction. North view is better than South, however, as that side faces directly up against another building. The furnishings and overall condition of the room was wonderful. The marble bathrooms are especially nice and the shower was to die for....very strong water pressure! We especially enjoyed the stereo/cd system w/speakers. What a nice touch over just a clock radio. The room had a nice sofa and easy chair. Very comfortable furnishings that make you want to spend time in the room. We checked out the following morning around 11:00am and was able to leave our bags with the bell captain since we were going to spend the day shopping and dining. As long as this property continues to participate with Priceline, we will definitely be back! We look forward to staying in early December for Christmas shopping!

Asked for and received two double beds. Room was not large, but I have stayed in some shoebox-style rooms in SF before, so this was no problem. Asked for a view and got the northside on the 23rd floor. Could see a span from the Transamerica Bldg, Coit Tower, to the bay. It was an unusually warm weekend and there is no a/c because they rarely need it, so room was a bit stuffy. Bathroom was lovely. No coffee machine but tea & coffee are complimentary in the lobby from 6-9 a.m. If you are interested primarily in Fisherman's Wharf or Union Square, then this hotel won't be ideal for you. But if you are keen on visiting Chinatown, then you will be happy indeed. As stated above, the good R&G Lounge is only a few blocks away, as is Hunan Homes Restaurant which is even better. The cable car museum and the fortune cookie makers are within walking distance also. On Saturday evenings all summer there is a free fair in the park in Chinatown, complete with Cantonese opera and Chinese traditional musical instruments. Parking on the street nearby was not a problem. We were never able to use the car service however, as it was always booked. I would recommend calling ahead before you even arrive at the hotel to arrange the car for a specific time. What sets this hotel apart from others is the service. From the woman on the phone at reservations to the woman at the desk at check-in to the incredible concierge, I was amazed by the sincere interest to help me. I left here a very happy customer, and I look forward to staying at the SFPH again.

The beds are nice, and the bathrooms are excellent! The hotel is also well-stocked with amenities. The best thing about this hotel, though, is the service! Everyone on the staff was wonderful and friendly -- no stiff formality here! The nice concierge lady I talked to was very helpful with all my needs and had plenty of great advice. They are very open to room requests and will do your best to please. At no point was booking through priceline an issue. Housekeeping even left me thank you notes for my (rather small since I am a poor student) tips! Drawbacks: Parking is very expensive, even for San Francisco. Don't take your car here unless you are rich. $36 would be decent for in-and-out but it is valet. As a habitual tipper I will not valet my car frequently because I feel compelled to tip. The restaurant is nothing special, but is priced like it is. You pay for the great service but the food is simple. No pool! :-) I realize that this is not easy to have in a downtown hotel but I have been spoiled by places like the San Diego Sheraton Suites with its 12th-floor pool. :-) Overall a highly-recommended stay and a GREAT bargain on priceline!

The complementary car service was a added plus. I would stay at this hotel again. Being next to the Embarcadero center was nice. As a tip for parking, you should save yourself $36 and park on the street on the weekends. This hotel is nicer than it's sister hotel the Hyatt Rengency around the corner.

Piano music in the evening in the lounge/bar. Room was in excellent shape, with a sliding glass door that, if I leaned out, I could see the bay bridge. Morning newspaper and free bottles of water in room as well as available in the courtesy car which we used twice, to get to a restaurant that evening and to the Avis rent car agency after we checked out. Concierge made dinner reservations for us. I was not given a key to the minifridge. We also stayed at the Hyatt Regency, which husband thought was just as good. I would say that while the HR was fine, it was not in quite as good shape as the PH and the concierge service at the PH was more accomodating. The car service is a wonderful asset. Make reservations for it if you can although for our dinner out, we were able to just get it on the spot. One caveat - on Saturday morning, we could not find an open coffee shop in the area (financial district) so had to have breakfast in the hotel - $40 for two. There was no coffee pot in the room. Easy to walk to Chinatown and Jackson Hill area. Convenient bus transportation to Nob Hill.
